Who's using Pure Protect?

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else is using Pure Protect yet.  We have gone through the quick start guide and have a VMWare to VMWare configuration setup.  We have configured our first policy and group utilizing a test VM but it seems to be stuck in the protection phase. I would be very interested to hear what others have seen or experienced.

  • Hi Charles, I am glad to see you using your Community Edition!

I took a look at your deployment and the logs under Monitor | Protection and view "InitialTestGroup."  You will see that it has successfully protected the source VM, however it is stuck in the replication phase.

Although I normally would be concerned that this is a network firewall issue, as port 22 needs to be open bi-directionally between both sites Edge Appliances, in this case the issue looks to be that the target site has not had it's completed setup.  Your policy is for "Chancellor" -> "Kettering" and Kettering is in "Pending Deployment" state.  As such, the target system is not in a state where it can receive the data, and therefore the Protection Job is getting stuck there.

Are you able to complete the deployment of the Kettering site?

Thanks Chad, I now see where the site was showing pending deployment and am working to remediate that issue.  Hopefully I will have a working test config shortly!

  • Tomorrow is demo day!  After some testing and help from Chad Monteith and Pure engineering we are set to demonstrate a non-production failover-failback in our Virtual environment.  Initially I think Pure Protect will have it's biggest impact on our bubble testing program.  For many years we just did not have the time or extra storage space to accomplish these tests.  With Pure Protect and Pure's snapshot, replication, and data reduction capabilities we should be able to get that testing program back online.
