Any chance we will see a Best Practice Checker for Vsphere 8 any time soon? Ideally a Fixer script with it

  • Hey Scott. I updated the work that Cody had initially done when I was one of the VMware focused FSAs. That added support for vSphere 7. My updates didn't include "fixer operations" as that can be problematic without the full weight of product development. The scripts were initially developed to help in situations where there were some gaps, like VMware not natively supporting our pathing requirements, and fixes were minimal. Fortunately, since vSphere 6.5 U1 (and 6.0 EP5), our pathing is essentially native in vSphere (new installs) and as such fixes aren't really required. I was working on a script that is an order of magnitude faster, with more optimized PowerShell code, but that fell the wayside when I moved to our Alliances team. During that time in Alliances, *I did update the script to check for vSphere 8* as well, as 7 & 8 are essentially the same. Keep in mind it is only for block (iSCSI/FC) use cases. With that, while I'd like to update the script to check all best practices (to include NVMe configurations, NFS configurations, and even extended vVols configurations), I unfortunately am no longer in a role that affords me the opportunity to devote cycles necessary to do that. Our Pure Storage Plugin for vSphere really streamlines the process of storage configuration, and is a proven solution for proper configuration of vSphere+Pure deployment/configuration. I know that cmautner and the folks in Professional Services do have some more through checks that are constantly updated and can be included as part of a Professional Services engagement.
